We all make mistakes. But whether from the uncanny quality of a bot’s hallucinations (count those fingers and toes!) or the schadenfreude of a computer missing an obvious joke, AI’s mistakes tend to go viral. Which means we’d be remiss not to mention that AI mishaps can do real reputational damage.

AI-generated marketing materials can give wrong information, chatbots have advised information-seekers to break the law, and in some cases it’s possible to manipulate an AI assistant into saying things a customer service representative never should.

While these AI tools do mimic lifelike behavior, they can’t be solely relied on to exercise human judgment about right and wrong, appropriate and inappropriate.
